The two main small business loan types are secured and unsecured. A secured small business loan will require collateral, an unsecured business loan will not. With a secured business loan, assets that lenders use as collateral have to be worth the same amount as the loan amount. Assets do not have to be directly from the business, nor do they have to be tangible items. Assets can also be stocks, bonds, the money value of insurances, or even your own house. Although you are at risk for losing your assets should you default on the secured business loan, secured business loans tend to have lower interest rates than unsecured business loans. Lenders feel more comfortable lending out money on a secured business loan since they know that if you default on the loan, they can always use the collateral from your assets to pay themselves back. Therefore, lenders do not feel they have to protect themselves as much financially through higher interest rates on secured loans.

On unsecured loans, interest tends to be higher since lenders only have your legal word that you will pay back the loan. Therefore, on unsecured loans, lenders feel they need to protect themselves a little bit more, usually through higher interest rates. That way if they do not get paid back the full amount, they will have recouped more of that money through the higher interest rate. However, with an unsecured business loan, you are not at risk for losing your assets if you default on the loan. Your credit, however, will be severely damaged very quickly should you default on an unsecured business loan.

If you cannot get a secured business loan, or an unsecured business loan, there is a type of unsecured business loan you can try getting that will highly increase your chances of being able to get the loan you need. You can get a loan through a small business administration (SBA) loan agency. These SBA loan agencies are independent agencies of the federal government that help small businesses get the loans they need that they cannot get by themselves. SBA loan agencies work with the lenders by making guarantees to help enable you to get the loan.

Many people have hobbies that they love and find profitable on a small scale.

It’s definately worth doing some research to work out if there is enough demand for your product or service to expand into a full time operation. It also depends on your financial commitments and responsibilities at this point to determine your financial position.

A sink or swim attitude can be a good thing, quit your job and then you have to make your home business work.

That’s why it’s so important that you love doing whatever it is. The added pressure of perhaps drowning can cause you so much stress that the success can’t come. It needs to come naturally and with a certain level of comfort. Now I’m saying that you shouldn’t challenge yourself and break through old blocks and mindsets but a bit of planning can go a long way too.

Try and have enough savings for example to give yourself a designated amount of time to spend focusing on your business so you don’t have to worry about the basics of living eg rent, mortgage, utilities, food petrol etc. Then of course the business will need some money too.

Depending on the business you may be able to get a small business loan from the bank.

Or it may be the type of work that you can build up on part time basis while maintaining your full time job, or go parttime so you still have some steady income for a while.

Time management is extremely important when you’re trying to split yourself and your time like that not to mention your health.

Nothing is worth running your health into the ground.

Another thing to think about with whatever business you start up is perhaps the possibility of selling it once you have it up and running. Money from a business you have built from the ground is a wonderful thing. I recently sold a small ironing business.

I started it from nothing with just an iron, an ironing board and a couple of ads in the local paper. It’s brought in over $10,000 PA over the last 3 yrs on a part time basis working it around my other jobs and businesses and I sold it for $7500. Maybe I could have got more but I wanted to make sure that my lovely clients had a nice person taking over their business. But I now have $7500 passive income which I am using to partially support me while I’m working on a bigger, better business.

What you choose to do it has to feel right. What I’m doing now as my main business is ethical, it helps people and is Eco friendly. What could be better.

Everyone is great at something, find what it is and go for it.

After all, life has enough expenses for most of us to deal with: just to get by month to month, we have to pay for housing, food, medical bills, and transportation.

Sure, anybody who has had the opportunity to go to college is probably pretty grateful for having had that privilege. And, it is a wonderful thing to have access to loans as a vehicle for paying for that education. But still, that does not change the fact that they can be more than a little bit difficult to pay off.

One way to potentially reduce your monthly student loan payments is to find a student loan consolidation company and consolidate your student loan debt. This is ideal if you have more than one student loan. By consolidating, you can reduce your monthly payments by potentially lowering your interest rate and stretching out your payments over more time.

Student Loan Consolidation: Federal Or Private?

The first decision you will need to make is whether you should consolidate with a private lender or with a federal consolidation program. The decision is an easy one to make, once you know how it works.

Basically, you should consolidate with a private lender if your existing loans are private loans. However, if your current student loans are federal loans such as Stafford, PLUS, Federal Perkins, or HEAL loans, you should go with federal consolidation.

Private Consolidation: How Lenders Determine Your Interest Rate

When it comes to private loan consolidation, it is important to understand how your interest rate is determined. Essentially, it is a combination of two factors: 1. the current standard rate such as the prime rate (or LIBOR) rate, and 2. your credit score. Your credit score determines how big the spread (or margin) is that is placed on top of the standard (e.g., prime) rate. The better your credit score, the lower your interest rate.

Your consolidated loan rate is usually a fixed rate, and you can choose your loan terms (e.g., 15 years, 20 years, etc.). But first, you will need to choose a consolidation lender that will offer you the lowest rate.

How To Find The Right Student Loan Consolidation Company

Here are 3 tips for getting the lowest rate on your private consolidation loan:

1. Make a list of at least 5-7 consolidation companies: As with dating, looking for a job, car shopping, and pretty much anything else in life where choice is involved, more choices are always better when you are starting out. Of course, at some point you will need to reduce your choices down to a reasonable number. But, start with as large a set of companies as possible.

2. Narrow your list down to 3 companies: Do online research on the companies you have found. Look at factors such as how long they have been in the student loan consolidation business, any low advertised rates they show, and the terms and conditions of their loans. Also, pay attention to whether the company feels like one you would want to do business with.

3. Apply to all 3 companies: Now, be sure to apply to all 3 companies. It will be easy to want to stop applying once you get an offer, but this is not the time to be lazy! Just a bit of extra effort could land you a lower rate which will save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Recently released data suggesting that for-profit education institution’s graduates aren’t finding positions in their field and therefore and have lower loan repayment rates may discourage some students from looking into online degree programs.

While much of the reports is deeply unsettling, it’s important to note that poor career-placement and loan repayment rates are not characteristics of every online school, just as for-profits are not the only ones to suffer from such issues. Many ground schools also have similar issues.

When making higher education decisions, it’s imperative to investigate and to weigh your options. The decisive factor in choosing the online school that is right for you is research. Let’s take a look at a few points to consider when considering your school choice.

First, and though this may seem obvious to many students already, check the institution’s accreditation status. Ensure that the school is accredited by checking out the accreditation database maintained by the U.S. Department of Education here
Beware of schools that employ aggressive recruiting tactics or encourage you to falsify information on documents. Quality online schools shouldn’t be hesitant about disclosing information.
Many schools, not just online, do a lot of “handholding through the application process.” Remember to shop around. Compare schools, tuition costs, and degree programs offered before making a concrete choice. Your education is an important decision; take the time to make the right one.
Part of the U.S. Education Department’s website is dedicated to providing students with information about graduation and loan repayment rates. Check out their site, here, and see how well a specific school’s graduates are doing.
Lastly, it may benefit you to talk to professionals in the field in which you want to pursue a degree. They may have advice to offer about online degree programs or specific online programs that were helpful for them.

Don’t let reports sway you. The simple fact is that many schools, online and ground, are not as good as they can be. Many schools, on the other hand, are. Take care in thoroughly researching your options before you make one of the most important investments in your life.
